Dendrimer-Glycopeptide Conjugation Service

Dendrimer-Glycopeptide Conjugation Service

Glycopeptides combined with dendrimers are widely used in biomedicine, where the antimicrobial effect is achieved by inhibiting the biofilm of bacteria. CD BioSciences has advanced facilities and experienced scientists to provide high quality glycopeptide binding to dendrimers.

Dendrimer-Glycopeptide Conjugation

Dendrimers are synthetic nanoscale molecules with branched structures characterized by well-defined monodisperse molecules. The most common dendrimers are polyamide (PAMAM) dendrimers, which are commercially available in several generations, poly (propylene imine) dendrimers (PPI), and polyacrylimides. Dendrimers are suitable for multivalent display of chemical groups. When dendrimers are linked to glycopeptide containing carbohydrates (glycans), glycopeptide dendrimers contain only natural amino acids, are water soluble, and are good candidates for further development of antibiotic and drug conjugates.

Applications of Dendrimer-Glycopeptide Conjugation

As a nanoscale biomolecule, dendrimers themselves have multiple applications in biomedicine. The main applications of dendrimers when combined with glycopeptides are drug delivery and antibacterial.

Drug Delivery

  • Drug Delivery
  • A particularly attractive potential application for dendrimers is drug delivery. Colchicine is a natural product that binds microtubule proteins and prevents their assembly during mitosis. Colchicine is not used for chemotherapy due to its cytotoxicity and would benefit from a vehicle capable of targeted drug delivery. The binding of dendrimers to glycopeptides is followed by intracellular degradation and release of active colchicine through cellular uptake, which can then bind to tubulin and greatly increase the inhibitory effect on HeLa cell proliferation.

Antibacterial Effect

  • Antibacterial Effect
  • Bacterial biofilm formation is the formation of bacterial colonies attached to biological or non-biological surfaces that can create a physical barrier to antibiotics, thus making them resistant. The spread of drug-resistant bacteria is one of the most pressing problems facing human health today. When dendrimers are combined with glycopeptides, the antibacterial effect of drugs can be achieved by inhibiting the formation of biofilms of bacteria and reducing the formation of drug-resistant bacteria.
