It has been suggested that U2B0 may not be required for the splicing reaction itself but may have a role in U2 snRNP biogenesis. Deletion analysis of the U2B0 gene fusion has identified the N-terminal RNP-80 motif as sufficient for localization to the coiled body and the nucleus.
