Description

Phosphorylation is a post-translational modification of a protein in which a phosphate group is covalently bound to a serine, threonine, or thyronine residue by a protein kinase. Phosphorylation of proteins can lead to activation or inhibition of protein function and is therefore a regulatory mechanism for protein activation.
