NCBI Protein Information
MUTS homolog 6
NCBI Summary
encodes a DNA mismatch repair homolog of human MutS gene, MSH6. There are four MutS genes in Arabidopsis, MSH2, MSH3, MSH6, and MSH7, which all act as heterodimers and bind to 51-mer duplexes. MSH2*MSH6 bound the (+T) substrate strongly, (T/G) well, and (+AAG) no better than it did a (T/A) homoduplex.

UniProt Comments
Component of the post-replicative DNA mismatch repair system (MMR). Forms the heterodimer MutS alpha (MSH2-MSH6 heterodimer) which binds to DNA mismatches thereby initiating DNA repair. MutS alpha recognizes single base mismatches and trinucleotide insertion-deletion loops (IDL) in the DNA. Is involved in a UV-B-induced DNA damage response pathway.
