Surgery & Preconditioning

Surgery & Preconditioning

Animal models are of great use in scientific research and pre-clinical study to obtain information about a disease and its prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. However, animals such as mice live relatively long, and their maintenance and preparation for research require complex skills. It is not only the genetics of animal models that matter in research programs, but also their husbandry. Thus, working with animal models is time and effort consuming.

To alleviate the time, space and labor involved in refining animal models to meet research requirements, CD BioSciences offers a complete array of surgical and preconditioning services from preparing disease model animals to all kinds of surgery with high ethical and quality standards.

Surgery & Preconditioning

Our Preconditioning Services

We offer a variety of animal preconditioning services to meet your specifications. We also maintain an inventory of study-ready animals (e.g., aged mice, mice on special diet, diet-induced obesity (DIO) models).

  • Animal ID

Properly identifying research animals with multiple methods (e.g., ear punch, ear tag, tail marking, tattoo, microchip).

  • Aging

Preparing animals at an appropriate age for your research, such as studying diseases (e.g., hypertension, heart failure, Alzheimer's and cancer) developed in aged animals.

  • Special Diet Administration

Feeding animals with high fat, high cholesterol, high sodium, calorie restricted or other diets and collecting relevant data.

  • Health Monitoring

Regularly monitoring the health parameters of animals (e.g., weight, blood pressure, glucose).

  • Injection

Inject a certain agent at a certain dosage and frequency according to your specifications, such as Streptozotocin (STZ) injection to mimic type 1 diabetes in mice.

  • Timed Pregnancy

Preparing pregnant animals according to your specifications.

  • Microbiota Transplantation

Fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT), transplanting donor microbiota to germ-free animals for assessing the effects of gut bacteria on physiological or pathological conditions, such as immune response, neurodegenerative diseases, obesity and diabetes.

Our Surgical Services

We offer surgical services for animals including but not limited to the following.

  • Cannulations/Catheterizations in vascular (artery, vein), brain, stomach, colon, urinary bladder and other sites.
  • Neurological Surgery: brain cannulation, Parkinson's model, Schizophrenia/Epilepsy model, et al.
  • Cardiovascular Surgery: hypertension model, atherosclerosis model of endothelial injury, et al.

Advantages of Our Services

Animal Welfare

Our surgical and preconditioning procedures (e.g., animal anesthesia, analgesia, aseptic preparation, surgery, and postoperative care) are performed to ensure that the highest animal welfare standards are maintained along with the conduct of accurate, valid scientific research.

High Biosecurity

We strictly comply with biosecurity policies during surgical and preconditioning procedures to prevent the introduction and/or spread of contaminations. Health and genetic integrity of your models are assured.

Highly-qualified Staff

All surgical and preconditioning procedures are performed by well-trained staff under regular evaluation of their quality metrics. Surgeons are evaluated prior to performing surgery and their surgical skills are under continuously monitoring.
