The mechanisms of diseases are studied largely by basic scientists and physicians, whose work facilitates the identification of potential targets for drug discovery. The drug candidates are biologically active compounds such as small chemical compounds or large molecular weight antibodies, which interact with targets and elicit measurable clinical effects.

Solutions for Drug Development
Once the drug candidates are found, they are evaluated on drug metabolism and pharmacokinetics (DMPK) to determine their bioavailability, efficacy and safety.

In the lead optimization process, the drug candidates are synthesized and modified to improve potency and reduce toxicity incorporating information gathered in the ADME study. In a drug development process, there can be an unlimited number of lead optimizations following either ADME study or preclinical study.

Mechanism of action (MOA) refers to the specific biochemical interaction through which drugs produce an effect.
In the MOA study, we identify the molecular targets (e.g., receptors, enzymes) of drugs or drug candidates, and uncover signaling pathways involved, as well as cellular processes affected.
A preclinical study determines the new drug's efficacy, toxicity, and pharmacokinetic on non-human subjects.
