Chemotaxis Assays
Chemotaxis refers to the migration of cells in response to chemical stimuli. Cell chemotaxis plays a crucial role in various physiological and pathological processes, including wound-healing, vasculature formation, inflammation and tumor metastasis.
Chemotaxis assays are to evaluate the chemotactic ability of cells. It can be used to investigate the chemotactic behavior of cells after gene modification or therapeutics.
CD BioSciences offers advanced cell-based assays for chemotaxis to help you have a better understanding of your gene or compound of interest.
Workflow of Our Chemotaxis Assays

- Load Cells
- Add Treatment (optional)
- Allow Cells to Settle
- Add Chemoattractant
- Allow Cells to Migrate
- Detach Cells (optional)
- Analysis
Our chemotaxis assays adapt Boyden Chambers each containing a membrane with a defined pore size in a 24 - well or 96-well format. Cells are seeded on top of the membrane and are allowed to move toward chemoattractant via actin cytoskeleton reorganization in the lower chamber. To achieve the optimal results, we have membrane pore size specially matched for different cell types.
- 3 µm - Leukocytes, Neutrophils
- 5 µm - Lymphocytes, Macrophages, Monocytes
- 8 µm - Endothelial Cells, Epithelial Cells, Fibroblasts, Tumor Cells
- 12 µm - Astrocytes, Slow-moving Cells
Advantages of Our Chemotaxis assays
Cell chemotaxis plays a pivotal role in the progression of cancer and other diseases. A wide variety of techniques have been developed. We adapted the canonical Boyden Chambers to perform highly reproducible chemotaxis assays with the following advantages.
- Low Cell Usage
- Real-time Migration
- Automated Cell Counting
- Colorimetric or Fluorometric Detection
- Suitable for Screening
