Cell health assays determine if a gene or a treatment is necessary for cell proliferation, death, and/or viability. It is used to characterize the effects of therapeutics, culture conditions or genetic modifications on cells.

Apoptosis and Necrosis Assays
Apoptosis is a form of programmed cell death that occurs in multicellular organisms to eliminate redundant, damaged, or infected cells. Necrosis, another form of cell death, occurs after cell injury or under disease states.
Determining the mechanism and kinetics of cell death is critical for your research. Our assays detect and quantify the cellular events associated with programmed cell death including caspase (i.e. caspase-3, caspase-7, caspase-8 or caspase-9) activity, phosphatidylserine (PS) exposure and DNA release.
Oxidative Stress Assays
Oxidative stress occurs because of the imbalance of free radicals (i.e. reactive oxygen species (ROS)) and antioxidants in the system. ROS is a natural byproduct of the normal aerobic metabolism oxygen and has a critical role in cell signaling and homeostasis. ROS levels can increase dramatically under stress such as UV exposure, which eventually cause irreversible damage DNA and sequentially contribute to aging and diseases.
Our assays detect glutathione in both the oxidized (GSSG) and reduced (GSH) states, and the level of H2O2, the longest-lived ROS, to quantify the oxidative stress in your model systems.
Inflammation refers to a biological response of the system against harmful stimuli, such as infection, injuries and toxins. As a protective response involving immune cells, vascular system, and molecular mediators, inflammation protects the system from disease. However, compounds that promote also causes diseases, which now are growing medical challenges.
Our assays measure markers of inflammation or inflammasome activation, including caspase-1 activity and cytokine IL-1β and IL-18.
Cell Viability and Cytotoxicity Assays
Cell viability refers to the proportion of living, health cells within a population. Cell cytotoxicity describes the detrimental effects of substances or environmental changes on cell health. They are used to determine the overall health of cells.
Our assays detect structural changes such as loss of membrane integrity upon cell death with vital dyes (i.e. trypan blue or propidium iodide) and metabolic activities indicative of living cells (i.e. MTT, LDH or ATP assays).
Autophagy Detection Assays
Autophagy is a regulated intracellular process for the degradation and recycling of unnecessary or dysfunctional components. It is implicated in many physiological and pathological conditions, including neurodegeneration and cancer. Studying autophagy and discovering the way to modulate autophagy may give rise to potential treatments for those diseases.
Our assays measure total levels of the LC3-based reporter, monitor the molecular weight change from LC3-I to LC3-II and image the location of LC3 within the cells.
Cell Proliferation Assays
Cell proliferation is the biological process that cells grow and divide, which leads to an increase in cell numbers. It is essential for normal tissue development, regeneration, and renewal. However, aberrant cell proliferation is a cause of cancer. Thus, cell proliferation can be a good indicator of general cell health.
Cell proliferation assays detect actively dividing cells and measure rates of cell proliferation. We offer assays using BrdU, MTT and WST-1 to detect cell proliferation rates. We also measure cell proliferation using live cell time-lapse imaging to generate long-term growth and growth-inhibition curves and monitor morphology.
